That's the offer I just got from a network marketing trainer...
Someone sent me to another trainer's site two days ago: "Never hear no again! Get 9 out of 10 prospects to say YES!" it blares.
Hmm.
What kinds of people do you suppose they're talking about where 8 of 10 would be suitable and recruitable for your business?
Where are those 9 out of 10 people who will give you a meaningful 'yes' to your business (or anything else)?
Hype and promises. They obviously pull people in. They obviously play to a basic need humans have: the need to believe. And belief is a good thing.
But the probabilities of success are not 8 in 10.
To offer proof that it's possible, they hold up that big winner - because yes, some people DO make it. All winners, from Network Marketing to Lotto, are trumpeted far and wide by those selling the hundreds of thousands of tickets to play.
But the probabilities are not 8 in 10. Not even close.
No matter what they tell you to sell you, know that going in and you won't be as disappointed.

Wish someone had told me that going in so I wouldn't have been disappointed and thinking the problem was with me (although I admit I did do a lot of things wrong).
But now that I know better, I'm just focusing on getting 2 'ready to work' people who GET IT and then help them get their 2, etc. The income potential is definitely there, but when people don't tell the truth, it breeds a lot of resentment and failure for way too many people.
I kept hearing it was a numbers game, but since joining NMC and attending your weekly calls, NOW I finally know WHAT those numbers are.
Thanks for sharing the truth with us. You are very much appreciated.
"Come hither my little lambs..."
No wonder our industry has a bad name. I won't be surprised when in the course of this game of one-upmanship one of these guys comes up with a updated headline "Want to recruit 12 out of 10?"
Ah Kim, What have you done to me? BK2 (before Kim Klaver), I would have JUMPED at an offer like that.. and now? I smile, shake my head and am very thankful my one team member, who btw is working and building her business like a house afire. Now my focus is finding one more just like her. Thanks again!
This post and the one about leads can be comedic. Maybe I’ll make a video for YouTube about these concepts ☺

Sign up 8 out of 10? Wow....Sign me up today ... here’s my credit card info... Oh yes, and then sell me those 5,000 leads so I can sign up 80% of them...”
Then a week later: “Gee, I didn’t get 80% to sign up. In fact, no one signed up. Can I get a refund?”
“So sorry, you did not follow our instructions...no refunds for you. Besides, the small print said results are not typical and your results may vary dramatically. Didn’t you see that?”
And another ex-MLMer goes out into the world screaming about pyramid schemes, fraud, and the audience of skeptics grows.....

"Want to recruit 8 out of 10?"
Easy -- "No, thank you."
I don't recruit. I look to find people who think like me and just might want to try my solution of correcting a bad diet instead of supplementing it. Some of them decide to look and find too, but not 8 out of 10. Which is peachy-keen with me, because having "plain old customers" rocks -- feels like a business, looks like a business, IS a business, duh.

**sigh**
It makes me sad. And MAD.
This is the kind of junk that makes ALL of us look like cheesy hucksters; like we're all living in some ridiculous fantasy-land, no business sense whatsoever- or as my southern aunt used to say:' without a LICK o' common sense!'
Hyperbole is dangerous is ANY business, but in our industry, which has suffered at the hands of opportunists and those who have no conscience, and will say ANYTHING to sell something, make life more difficult for the rest of us who understand that building a business is WORK, and aren't afraid to apply ourselves!
Yes, there are ways to increase our results.
Yes, there have been statistical studies that indicate that there IS a science, there are proven techniques, that will absolutely enhance our businesses.
They aren't really miraculous.
In fact, they're pretty much fundamental business and interpersonal skills, refined and applied to our particular industry, which is like NO OTHER!
And we need to focus on these basics, and get better at 'doing the do' than just looking for a better and more magical mousetrap.
Thanks to you, Kim, and others in this industry who care about others, and care about the truth, and dedicate so much time and energy to teaching people solid business principles that yes, do allow us to get better results more of the time...though I doubt you'd promise us '8-out-of-10'!!
And those of us who pay attention KNOW that 1-2 out of 10 is all we need anyhow!!
Come on, y'all...let's magnify the voice of reason throughout our fantastic industry!!
Keepin' it real in New Jersey!

Question -- If this guy can get 8 out of 10, why doesn't he recruit those people in his downline????

There are some good aspects to their training. They teach you how to qualify people, how to not be a desperate networker-chasing after any body with a pulse. I'm in a coaching program right now and I was never told that I could recruit 8 out of 10 people. I was told that I would improve my skills and that has paid off not only in my business but in the way that I interact with people in general. Imagine paying to be taught how to listen to people and learning how to ask questions. Learning how to let go of my own preconceived notions about people. Training can be very valuable and they don't need to hype it to entice people to enroll.
