Optimist or Pessimist?

"Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optimist invents the airplane, the pessimist the parachute." -GB Shaw
You can do the same in your own mind for any undertaking where you cannot know the outcome for sure. Like your own business. Don't buy their simplistic notion that it's all about 'seeing the glass half empty or half full.'

I think success is mostly dependant on mindset. Your new business requires bold, deliberate action to get off the ground. It's more than being positive or negative. It's about stretching our comfort zone and growing as a person. Playing it safe (glass half empty) is where many of us came from. Taking a chance (glass half full) is what's necessary for entrepreneurial success.

Trish - Success is defined many ways. I agree that mindset is #1 when it comes to overcoming the bumps. Attitude towards "failure" - people not doing what we hoped, or screwing up ourselves, and adjusting and keeping going - THAT depends on our mindset. And if personal progress alone could make us happy, mindset is all we'd need.

Because our progress would be enough. But in our world, everyone compares themselves to others and THAT is where the mindset alone is not enough. Our getting better doesn't mean we will get the cooperation (and the money or effort) of others. And that is what financial success depends on. Getting that.

If you start with the glass half full, i.e. you are negative, you cannot even get out of the gate!

:)

I see your point but it still comes back to mindset for me. I have goals, I work consistantly toward them (setting an example) and others around me (my team) follow suit or they don't. If no one follows suit then I guess I have to look to myself to see where I need to change/improve.

It's not about whether the glass is half empty or half full. It's really about what's in the glass.
